I know Gelphie is canon, but I just don’t get it! All they had was “sexual tension”, whatever that means. That one time, after they met with Madam Morrible, doesn’t count: she told them that if they tried to think about it, they couldn’t. Well, they tried and her magic kept them from thinking about it: they got light-headed (Nessa almost fell), and Glinda fell into Elphaba’s…well, you know. It also says that they “shared a bed” on the way to the Emerald City, but that’s no different than Quequeg and Ishamael sharing a bed in Moby Dick: they just did it to save money and keep warm.

That doesn’t mean they were lovers. I mean, with that kind of vague innuendo, let’s say that David and Jonathan were gay lovers because the Bible says they “loved each other”, “greater than the love of women”, or that Jesus Christ loved Lazarus in a homosexual way because He wept at his funeral.

Fiyeraba happened. Elphaba and Fiyero had sex (the novel clearly stated that), and as much as Liir wants to be a denying pansy, he is Elphaba’s son, whether he likes to believe it or not. Maguire might have said that Gelphie is canonical, but Fiyeraba actually happened, and it drove Elphaba into her madness, which is something that Glinda couldn’t do in the novel. I mean, they barely had much time together: how can you say they did?

Anywho, if you like/ship Gelphie, I’m not hating on you or your choice. I personally just think it’s baffling and puzzling, how Fiyeraba happened in the novel, but Maguire is like: “Fuck that, it didn’t happen: Gelphie is real.” Even if I am the last one shipping Fiyeraba…
