The Bells of St. John

From Mary Sue Dalek to Victorian Super Nanny to…Rose Tyler? Yeah, that’s basically what Clara Oswin Oswald III is: an average British girl.

I wonder if Mr. Moffat read my rantings, because she’s not as mary sue-ish in “The Bells of St. John” as opposed to her previous two appearances. Granted, she still gets untold computer skills from the alien version of iCloud, but we don’t know if that’s permanent or not.

And then, surprise surprise, she doesn’t decide on a whim to go with the Doctor when he invites her to see the universe. It bugged me at first, because it seemed pretty much natural for MSD to just do what the fan-girls expect her to do, but then she goes and does the realistic thing (the thing Donna Noble did, which rose my respect for her). Also, I liked the whole “Doctor Who?” thing, considering that she erased his memory from all the last remaining Daleks (“Doctor Who?”) and that is the question that will make silence fall, etc.

Then the episode ends and we STILL have no idea who she is.

Picture, If You Will…

The black mountains of Hades, glowing red with distant fire…a beautiful woman in the throes of orgasm, glistening with sweat…trapped in a coffin, cut off from air and light, slowly dying…horse-mounted warriors riding on a hill shrouded in mist…a viking ship set aflame, the fallen warrior destined for Valhalla…giants waging war with the gods…orgies and secret sorcery rites…columns of black steam from factories, acid rain and death…a lone warrior riding atop a white steed into forests of shadows…the fury of a thousand suns born in one moment…the crisp, cool air against your breath as you ride through the mighty pine woods…the snow-clad shores of Vinland…

That’s just the kind of stuff you get from a Bathory album! From the first one to Nordland II, it’s just so fucking beautiful. I, like Quorthon, love painting images with words, and his lyrics create these beautiful, epic (and disturbing) images in my head. If I had the artistic skill, I’d paint images based on the lyrics of Bathory songs. But, I’m only good as a musician, so please, people, are there any blogs out there, either here or on deviant.art, that make really good art inspired by Bathory?

This is Ridiculous!

That people think Metallica ripped off Megadeth’s song “Go to Hell” for “Enter Sandman.” The songs are nothing alike, save for the use of that prayer

“Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the LORD my soul to keep
If I die before I wake
I pray the LORD my soul to take”

But saying that one ripped off the other for the use of that song is ridiculous! That little diddy has been in public domain for years and anyone may use it as they will. To say that one ripped off the other with the use of that song is as stupid as the Catholic Church suing Behemoth because they quote the Bible in some of their songs.
